Ben and Lillie Williams lived in New Bremen near Industry and had 13 children. Their seven sons all learned German growing up from their German neighbors and employers. Their daughter, Lilly May Davis, was just starting to learn the language when she left home to get married. She remembers that her father would teach them playfully as they worked for German neighbors. Ben and his wife, Lillie, rest at a family cemetery near Shelby with many other members of their family who also spoke German and worked closely with and for the German community.
